In the recently posted story, Big Bending The Rules, 71 wild burros were shot, killed and left to suffer in Big Bend State Park, Texas with plans to totally eradicate them from the Park despite centuries of inhabiting the area.

The lethal disposals of the burros is due to new management plans that seek to turn the Park into exclusive bighorn sheep habitat and justified through a 1975 Sierra Club policy that advocates "humane removals via firearms.

Luis Armendariz, Big Bends Park Superintendent who was "transfered" and forced to resign for speaking out against the shootings said, “The burro carried the mother of the king of kings on their back. We should respect them for that.”
